CORRECTING AN ERROR

Image
Correcting errors and addressing misconceptions is an essential aspect of personal and professional growth. For the church of Christ to stay focus and stand on the part of truth, errors and misconceptions must be addressed. However, the approach used to correct errors can significantly impact the outcome. Criticizing and fault-finding often lead to defensiveness, arguments, and further entrenchment of the error. In contrast, presenting the truth in a clear and respectful manner, alongside the error, exposes the falsehood and fosters a conducive environment for correction and learning. I have discovered that Criticizing and fault-finding can:-  Lead to defensiveness and hurt pride - Create an adversarial atmosphere - Overlook the underlying reasons for the error - Focus on personal attacks rather than the issue - Discourage open communication and feedback On the other hand, presenting the truth beside the error: - Encourages objective evaluation and comparison - Focuses on the ...

ARE YOU RELIGIOUS OR GODLY?

Image
Many people hold their faith close and never realised that they have strain far away from the truth,  it's important to reflect on the essence of one’s beliefs beyond the rituals and traditions. Religion is often worn like a garment, visible for all to see, yet godliness is woven into the fabric of our character, felt rather than flaunted. The discrepancy between religious practices and godly behaviour is significant because when people focus on the semblance of piety without embodying its principles, they become vulnerable to manipulation by those who misuse religion for personal gain .Religious fervour without the substratum of godliness can create a hollow space where fear and respect for the Lord ought to be. This vacancy can lead to a superficiality in faith, allowing for manipulative tendencies under the guise of piety. It's easy to wrap oneself in the cloak of religiosity, performing rituals and speaking the language of devotion, while failing to internalise the spi...

WHAT IS THAT GOD CANNOT DO

Image
In Luke 1: 37 - 61 it is said " for there is nothing that God cannot do ---  Is there anything that God cannot do? If so, what are the boundaries and limitations and how are they defined? Unfortunately, these are questions that some systematic theologians neglect, avoid, or answer unsatisfactorily.  No matter what God does there will be something which he is unable to do, with my years of walking with Him, I have come to the conclusion that God can't do the following things  1.God is unable to do anything which is logically contradictory. 2. God can't commit suicide, an action which would undermine the very power of the being.  3.God can't change 4.He can't be lonely, either you serve him or not. 5.God can't break his promise 6.God can't be tempted. 7.God can't be surprised. 8.He can't bear to look at evil or practice evil. 9.God can't disown himself  10.God can't lie. 11.God can't be fooled. 12.He can't be given a problem he can...

CULTIVATING A GROWTH MINDSET

Image
Embracing the Complexity of Growth and the Pursuit of Success in the vast tapestry of life, the journey towards success is often a complex and challenging one. It is a path filled with triumphs and setbacks, blessings and obstacles, where the simplicity of achieving one's goals is rarely a reality. To truly thrive and succeed, one must recognize that there is no shortcut or easy route to growth. Instead, it is through wholehearted dedication, perseverance, and continuous striving that we unlock our true potential and find fulfillment. In our modern society, we are bombarded with messages promising quick fixes, instant gratification, and overnight success. However, the reality of personal and professional growth is far from simple. It involves embracing the discomfort that comes with pushing beyond our comfort zones, confronting our fears, and working tirelessly towards our aspirations. Just as a seed must struggle and push through layers of soil to reach the surface and bask in the...

The Candidacy of Individuals with Dented Image in Pastoral Roles:

Image
The pursuit of a pastoral role by individuals with a dented image has been a subject of debate within religious communities. Some argue that this may be seen as a mockery of the gospel or an insult to the holiness of God. However, it is crucial to explore the biblical perspective on this matter to ascertain a better understanding. By examining biblical teachings and examples, we can gain insights into how God views the suitability of all individuals, regardless of their past, to serve in pastoral positions. Central to this issue is the concept of redemption presented throughout the Bible. Scripture consistently teaches that God is a loving and forgiving Father who offers redemption and restoration to all who seek it. The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians, reminds us that we are saved by grace through faith alone and not by our own merits ( Ephesians 2:8-9 ). This fundamental truth suggests that individuals with a dented image possess the potential for transformation and ...

WE NEED A GENERATION DOING WHAT IS RIGHT

Image
Living according to what is right rather than what is popular is a fundamental principle emphasized throughout the Bible. As followers of God, we are called to prioritize righteousness above the fleeting desires and opinions of the world. This commitment to doing what is right requires strength, discernment, and a steadfast faith in God's word. In the book of Proverbs, we find several verses that highlight the importance of choosing righteousness over popularity. Proverbs 12:15 states, " the way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice." This verse reminds us that following popular opinion and relying solely on our own understanding can lead us astray. Instead, it is wise to seek advice and guidance, especially from God's word, in order to discern what is truly right and just. Proverbs 14:12 also underscores the danger of following the crowd: " There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death ." This...
