WE NEED A GENERATION DOING WHAT IS RIGHT

Living according to what is right rather than what is popular is a fundamental principle emphasized throughout the Bible. As followers of God, we are called to prioritize righteousness above the fleeting desires and opinions of the world. This commitment to doing what is right requires strength, discernment, and a steadfast faith in God's word.

In the book of Proverbs, we find several verses that highlight the importance of choosing righteousness over popularity. Proverbs 12:15 states, "the way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice." This verse reminds us that following popular opinion and relying solely on our own understanding can lead us astray. Instead, it is wise to seek advice and guidance, especially from God's word, in order to discern what is truly right and just.

Proverbs 14:12 also underscores the danger of following the crowd: "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death." This verse serves as a solemn warning, reminding us that what may appear right and popular in the eyes of society can ultimately lead to destruction. It is essential for us to look beyond the surface and align our actions with God's truth, even when it goes against prevailing norms.

Another powerful example within the Bible is found in the book of Daniel. In Daniel 1:8, we encounter a young man named Daniel who, along with his companions, faced a dilemma. They were captives in Babylon and were offered food and wine from the king's table. However, this food was likely defiled according to their Jewish dietary laws. Despite the allure and popularity of indulging in such delicacies, Daniel resolved not to defile himself. This decision was driven by his commitment to honor God's commands, even when it meant going against the mainstream culture of the Babylonians.

Daniel's unwavering dedication to doing what was right rather than what was popular was eventually rewarded. In Daniel 1:17, it is written that God gave Daniel and his friends knowledge and understanding beyond their years, enabling them to excel in their service to the king. This biblical account illustrates that when we choose to prioritize righteousness, God will bless and elevate us, even in the face of opposition.

Jesus himself taught the importance of doing what is right, regardless of popular opinion. In Matthew 7:13-14, he explains, "Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few." These words serve as a reminder that the path of righteousness may be challenging and less traveled, but it leads to eternal life.

Additionally, Jesus faced immense pressure from the religious leaders and the crowds to conform to their expectations. However, he consistently upheld God's truth, even if it meant standing alone. In John 5:30, Jesus declares, "I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me." Jesus exemplifies the ultimate commitment to doing what is right, even when it is contrary to popular opinion.

The Bible clearly teaches us the significance of doing what is right rather than following popular trends. Through the examples of biblical figures like Daniel and Jesus, we see the rewards and blessings that come from prioritizing righteousness, even in the face of opposition. As followers of God, we are called to align our lives with his truth, seeking wisdom and guidance from his word.

As we move on in this new year may we be a generation committed to doing what is right, regardless of the prevailing winds of popular opinion.May you be filled with the power and grace to bring joy to God's heart, and may you stand as a remnant, passionately loving and serving him in these times.
