DID JESUS EVER CALLED HIMSELF GOD?

 Many unbeliever, atheist and muslim had argued that Jesus never called himself God in the bible, I saw a video that one muslim sheikh made an open challenge that if anyone can point out where Jesus called himself God in the new testament he would become a Christian, This pushed me to dig deep to the word of Jesus to affirm what Jesus said about himself.

Jesus was to these people as a nice guy and a great teacher and also a messenger of God like others.

Let us delve into history this God we are talking about is the God of the Hebrew, this English Bible in our hand is translated from the Aramaic, so the name God was a Greek name used to called this God of the Israelites.In Judaism they believe there are certain names of God which written must not be erased.

The Israelites called Him " YHWH" which we pronounced as "YAHWEH" after the Babylonian exile in 6th century BCE, the Jews ceased to use the name of Yahweh for two reasons.

1. Because, Judaism became a universal rather than merely a local religion.

2.The divine name was increasingly regarded as too sacred to be uttered,so it was thus replaced in the synagogue virtual by the Hebrew word ADONAI.- "my Lord", also ELOHIM ( which is a plural in form, but understood in the singular, this can be ascribed to the confirmation of the nature of Trinity.The Latin speaking Christian scholars replaced it with "JEHOVAH" by replacing the Y which does not exist in Latin with I or a J = JEHOVAH.

The Greeks later translated the Hebrew scriptures in creating the Septuagint to God.People have changed God's name a few times over the course of history. It all depended on when and where you are born.so If you call Yahweh, Adonia,Elohim, Jehovah,God, Lord,or Abba, you are still refering to the same God.

In Genesis 1:1, it read thus " In the beginning "God" created the heaven and the earth, it should have been written in this form " In the beginning Yahweh,Adonia or Elohim created the heaven and the earth.

When God first appeared to Moses in the burning bush, Moses was bold enough to ask God for His name and God gave Moses an interesting response.

God said to Moses " I AM that I AM" This is what you are to say to the Israelites,I AM has sent me to you, Exodus  3:14. For generations following this. interaction between God and Moses. The Israelites reverend the name of God ( I AM).This name is so precious that it was not to be slandered or given to anyone or anything other than God himself.

Did Jesus now called himself by any of these names  Jehovah, Elohim, Adonai etc ascribed unto God? not at all but he gave us a shocking revelation that quite show us the true picture of who he is.

When the Jews were questioning the power, authority and teaching of Jesus, they actually accused him of beng demon possessed and this is what Jesus said in responding to them. " I am not possessed by a demon, said Jesus,but I honour my father and you dishonour me, I am not seeking glory for myself, but there is one who seeks it, and he is the judge. I tell you the truth, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death. - the Jews shouted " Now we know that you are demon possessed, Abraham died and so did the prophets, who do you think you are? Jesus replied " If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My father, whom you claim as your God,is the one who glorifies me.Though you do not know him. I know him, if I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and keep his word. Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day, he saw it and was glad., The Jews replied, you are not yet 50years old,and you have seen Abraham and Jesus said unto them " I tell you the truth before Abraham was born I AM" John 8:49-58".

Are you following me? Jesus made two profound statement:

Firstly, he claimed to be eternal and to have existed before Abraham.

Secondly, Jesus called himself by the ancient name ascribed to only God himself,and which God introduced himself to Moses,- I AM.

The Pharisees knew exactly what Jesus meant by this statement. From their understanding Jesus specifically called himself " I am God" .We know this by their reactions. They responded by attempting to stone Jesus for claiming to be God.They considered his statement as an act of blasphemy that is worthy of death, but Jesus hid himself , slipping away from them. John 8:59.

Jesus may not have use the Greek title to say his God, but he never left us in doubt for us to know that he is God. Read further Mark 14:62, John 18:5-6, John 8:24,28

Jesus is not just a teacher, a nice guy or one of the servant of God ,He is God, I am sure when I read this scripture.

Open up your spirit and you will discover there is no controversy about it Jesus is God, came in human form for our redemption,it may be too difficult for canal mind to accept this,but I pray that Holy Spirit will give you more understanding as to the personality of Jesus.
